Project Life | Week 22...

Hi Friends! It's Leanne here today with another Project Life instalment.  This week - Week 22 | May 26 - June 01, I am sharing my last spread created with the Sassy Scrapper June Project Life kit.

With the remains of my kit, I still had quite a number of 'cut aparts' from the Crate Paper patterned paper and I didn't want any of them to go to waste!  This week, I'll share with you how I layer in clusters, without adding bulk to my pages and at the same time, getting the most from the kit that was used.

My photos this week are quite portrait like.  Not so much the 'everyday style' or 'kids in action' type shots.  When my children are accommodating, I love to grab the camera and just take photos of them.  Even if they are posing! And if we happen to be in a gorgeous location, well... that is just a bonus! But I am aware, that most of my photos this week, don't share the whole story of what we did during Week 22.  I knew I needed to add some extra journaling.

Firstly, I positioned my photos.  Next I chose which of the remaining PL cards or patterned paper I would journal on and then add them to my spread.  After these two things were complete, I got to have some fun with layering the remaining embellishments.

I love using ledger paper to type on.  I had enough of the reverse side of one of the patterned paper 12x12 sheets to create my own journaling card.

After typing, I simply trimmed my paper, punched holes evenly across the top and then used my scissors to tear from the top of the hole to the top edge of the paper.  The journaling was then adhered to some left over cardstock and a small row of stitching applied.

The Teresa Collins stickers have been layered at the lower left hand corner of the journaling to ground the card to the 4x6 patterned paper base.

Most of the layered clusters on this week's spread have some machine stitching added.  I have done this to add an extra touch of texture but also to create consistency across the two pages.  Adding texture with a few rows of machine stitching easily eliminates the need for elements that may cause those extra lumps and bumps.

White space in photos also creates ideal areas for cluster placement.  In the photo above, I captured not only my four children standing (somewhat) still, but the lake in the background.  The sentiments on the 'cut aparts' were too beautiful not to use as a feature and so I decided to not worry so much about covering the water with my layers.  Besides, I had made a note of what we were doing and where, in my journaling.

The Sassy Shop, currently has the Simple Stories photo flip pockets in stock.  I have used one to include some journaling for events that I have no photos of and for some sensitive journaling to be documented underneath.  The pockets themselves are very slim line and fit flat to the page.

This week, you may have noticed that I have also used a lot of the Teresa Collins alphas (included in the kit) to create subtitles and quotes.  These fun elements, added to label stickers or patterned papers, also build up layers that won't create bulk within your pockets.  It's also a great way to use up those letters and make areas on your page demand attention!

Try to get creative with the leftover bits and pieces you have available.  Even the smallest scrap of paper can be transformed into a beautiful element for your page.  Check out the tiny triangles on the photo, at the top of page one! I love making the most of my supplies!  Thanks for visiting..x

Project Life | Week Twenty...

Hello Sassy Friends!  Welcome to Project Life Week Twenty | May 12 - 18.  This week I am sharing another spread created with the Sassy Scrapper's June PL Kit.

Okay Friends.  I have something to confess.  I don't plan ahead when it comes to matching kit colours with my project life photos.  I kind of just take the snapshot and then worry about the cohesive-ness of my spread later.  That's why I get so excited when I work with my Sassy PL Kits.  They are really so versatile with the colours and textures, my spreads just always seem to come together, effortlessly.

This simple, ombre strip of patterned paper from the Kit, was a perfect example of photo/story & paper embellishment coming together unexpectedly.  The sunset image not only has similar colours as the paper, but the cloud ripples reminded me of the ombre itself.

As my first pocket page contained vibrant colours, I have teamed it next to a relatively simple filler card.  The decorative wood pieces help embellish and give dimension to the card without it feeling completely flat.

A big event at our house during Week 20, was NAPLAN.  The middle row of my Design A pockets, on page one, has been completely dedicated to sharing that story.  Whereas the bottom row on page one, now mirrors the top row on page two.

However, on the photo above, I wanted to add some text, created with Photoshop, directly to my 4x6 print.

I have discovered, that in my PL process, there is just something so magical, when I add text to my pages.  The photos & stories combined, come to life.  The Becky Higgins PL cards are always a treasure trove for me to work with.  Sometimes I will use the planned journaling side of the card, but other times I will type directly onto the pretty patterned paper.

Some of the PL filler cards this week, even prompted me into remembering some of our more mundane happenings.  Treasure Maps have always been created by my boys, but I don't always remember to take a photo of the finished product.. (usually a few pencil marks on a plain piece of printer paper that also includes an 'X' to 'mark the spot').

I love how having a kit to work with, can allow you to think outside the box when it comes to creating your page.

Thanks for visiting today..x

Project Life | Week Nineteen...

Hello Sassy Friends!  Today I am excited to share with you the gorgeous new kit for June!  It has been jam  packed with so many wonderful goodies, that you just know you are getting great value for money!  Have a little look here...

This week I was completely inspired by the new kit.  The lovely floral patterns and muted tones were perfect for me to document Week 19 | May 5 - 11.

During Week 19, our endless Summer continued, even though we were closing in fast on the Winter months.  The weekly title has been created using a 4"x6" PL card.  I added the alphas from the Teresa Collins sticker sheet and then stitched them directly to the card.

To add more interest, I also adhered the scallop border and two cute phrases.

On a separate 4"x6" PL card, I've typed the weekly details into the journaling space provided.

Next to the top journaling pocket, I have created white space within my photo.  I played in Photoshop and added three photos of my youngest son's craft projects to a single 4"x6" photo base.  I left room at the bottom of the photo to add a simple sticker phrase.

Using these sticker phrases has helped me also document a fun story from the week.  My husband happened to pick up the camera on Mother's Day and snapped this shot of me and my boys taking a 'selfie'!

I felt that the story behind the photo needed to be told as it's a current 'thing' in our household at the moment.  The arrow on the layered stickers, directs the eye to where it needs to go.  I love that these mini stories help boost the bigger picture of our day to day lives.

Mother's Day is heavily featured in this week's spread.  A lot of photos were taken on this day and I've devoted a whole journaling section to it, just so I can keep the details fresh in my memory.

On page two, I have also used the Simple Stories "photo flip pockets".

The photo flip pocket has allowed me to add an extra photo and its journaling to record another fun family memory.  It is simply adhered to the front of another pocket, but be careful not to block access to the rear pocket.  I lined the flip pocket up with a pocket of a corresponding size - 3"x4".

I found that it does slightly obscure the clear pocket where it needs to be adhered, but nothing that another label sticker (on the outside of the pocket) can't try and disguise! *grin*

As a final touch to this week's spread, I've added some actual artwork that was given to me on Mother's Day.  Where possible I love to include these items so they will be preserved, sweet hand written details included.  I didn't trim this flower to fit my PL card, but rather just folded the petals behind it.

A photo flip pocket can really help include the mini stories that occur during your week.  These details will be what makes your Project Life memorable in the future.
