Leanne | Simple Stories Mini Album...

Hi Sassy Friends! Today I am playing with more of the gorgeous Simple Stories Let's Party collection and I've put together a mini album to help celebrate my youngest son's birthday in a few months!
To start this album I grabbed a three off cuts and layered them together. Once I was happy with the centering I folded and machine stitched the spine.
The cover was created using a Doodlebug Design paper doily, Simple Stories Chipboard frames and die cuts.
I've also added a strip of washi along the spine to cover the exposed machine stitching and to reinforce the mini together.
As you can see, this little booklet can hold quite a number of elements!!
On the first page, I've added details about his special day directly onto a 3x4 patterned paper card. On the opposite page I've left space to add a photo. The snapshots details card from Elle's Studio has been stapled directly to the page and can lift easily to add the photo at a later date.
Below the typed details I've added simple "xo" alphas & stickers.
The next pages have been layered with more chipboard frames, die cuts and 3x4 patterened paper cards. The baker's twine was added to the die cut and label to create a tag effect.
I know I will want to include a photo of my son with his cake.  It's a tradition in our family to have this done! LOL! So, I've already planned for this in my mini album.
I wanted to also add an extra page with a flap that opens upwards rather than left to right. After trimming a piece of paper to size, I've then stapled it to the booklet and hidden the staples with fussy cut sentiment.
There's now more room for photos and details.
On the final pages of the mini, I've played with creating hidden pockets and allocating space for photos.
This piece of paper has been adhered close to the edge on three sides only, and while it looks like an envelope, it's quite fake! Any ephemera I have from the day will slip below these details.
Thanks so much for visiting today. I hope I've offered some inspiration to create a birthday mini album to store all the fun memories!  Check out the Sassy Store for all the products I've used...x

Agnus | Project Life Shimelle Starhine

Hi again :) I have started documenting March and have another project life share using the gorgeous new Shimelle Starshine Collection from the store.

I started the month by piecing together a custom title card using some of the papers from collection and was excited to try out the new Minc Reactive Mist to add some gold foiled splatters onto the card.

I don't actually own a Minc Machine, but was able to achieve good results with my laminator and some gold Minc Foil. Rather than spraying the mist, I simply unscrewed the lid and used the spray tube to drip some splatters onto the cardstock and with a bit of trial and error I discovered that if you don't let the reactive mist fully dry before applying the foil, your droplets will spread in the direction that you run it through your machine. I used satin thread to add some hand stitched detail to the big number 3 for my March title and layered a mix of textured pieces to finish off the card.

I love adding embellishments to my pockets and really liked the variety of chipboard, stickers and die-cuts that are available int his collection.

The large die-cuts from the ephemera pack were great for creating custom filler cards, and the pack also include a range of fun acetate pieces.

The clear stickers were great for adding some detail over the patterned papers, which I used to create all of my cards.

I repeated the colours and several elements from the first half of the week onto the second page to create a nice flow, and once again experimented with the Minc reactive mist to create another filler card.

And I was very excited to discover that the Minc reactive mist also works on photos!!
I used a small paintbrush to create a few smaller droplets on the pic.

More stickers and die-cuts helped me to create another filer card.

I finished off the final card by using the same pattern I used for the first card from the previous page and added cardstock layers and more hand stitching.

Leanne | Simple Stories Layout...

Hi there Sassy Friends! This month I am playing with the gorgeous Simple Stories Let's Party collection! I am so excited as this collection is perfect for all things celebratory!! LOL! However, The first project I am sharing has nothing to do with a birthday, as you'd clearly expect, when first glancing at these products. It just goes to show how versatile Simple Stories can be. *grin*

"High Five"

My first instinct with this collection was to go with colour rather than theme. Since the 'orange' in the photo needed to be high lighted, I layered patterned papers and selected embellishments that would help me achieve this goal.

The story behind the photo is mostly about the icy poles my son was enjoying on a hot summer's day. The Simple Stories Let's Party Chipboard frames created a great focus point on my layout not only to draw the eye across the page but to also zoom in on the embellishments that embraced my story.

To balance out the top right hand cluster, I fussy cut an image from the 3x4 Journaling Card paper, and layered it with Lil' Snippet labels from Elle's Studio and a flair from Greatest View. Of course it is totally appropriate that I use the Elle's Studio collection name on the page, as it is also my son's name! I definitely take opportunities when I see them! LOL!

More of the Elle's Studio labels were used among my main cluster layers. Notable the title label - "High Five". Again it was colour that helped me with this decision, matching the denim of his shorts and linking the visual triangle of navy blue around the page.

Finally, a few splatters of black paint directly onto the cardstock creates depth. Plus by adding the paint, I like how it grunges up a boy scrapbook page without my clean style going AWOL.

This collection is quite perfect for scrapbooking boys and their everyday adventures, even though it focuses on celebrating birthday events. Thanks for visiting..x
