Summer | Simple Stories Hello Summer | Tarrah McLean

Hi everyone!

It's Tarrah McLean back with you and today I am sharing a new layout using the Hello Summer collection by Simple Stories!!!

I absolutely love that rainbow striped paper from this collection but I will be honest, it is a little bit intimidating to use it all as one whole piece because there is just so much colour! I decided to cut out a cut file design on white cardstock so that I could put it over the top and tone the colours down a little bit. I love how it looks over the top of the paper and how the arrows draws your eye into the photo!

This photo is a classic of myself with my friends at a scrapbooking retreat where we had a Hawaiian dress up night! This collection was perfect to use with this photo as the colours go perfectly! I couldn't resist using that awesome Summer chipboard title at the bottom of my photo.

I also wanted to add a touch of black and white so I added the 'Good Times' sticker to the right of my photo. I like how the black and white breaks up some of the colour going on! I added some of the leftover wood veneer pieces I had like the heart and the small pineapple.

I fussy cut a few of the clouds from the cloud paper and added to the top of the photo along with the sunglasses and phrase sticker.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! Make sure you check out the Sassy store for amazing goodies you can't live without!

Fun In The Sun | Simple Stories Hello Summer | Tarrah McLean

Hi Sassy Scrappers,

It's Tarrah McLean back with you and today I am sharing a new layout using the Hello Summer collection by Simple Stories!!!

I couldn't go past this super cute photo of my son dressed up as a lifeguard this week! I pulled out the yellow sun paper for my background to bring some of that yellow out from his t-shirt, it was a little bit too much yellow though so I toned it down with some white cardstock over the top.

I cut up the 'Fun in the Sun' title from the paper 'Who's Ready for Summer?' paper for my title and a big focal point against my photo. I cut a strip from the 'Life Is Good' paper to tuck in under my photo and title. I just love how all the colours are featured in that single strip of paper!

I absolutely love that chipboard scooter embellishment, even though it really has no relevance to this particular photo or the theme of my layout, I still like how it looks on the right of my photo, overlapping some of the elements. Lifeguards could ride scooters right?!

A few finishing touches like some phrase stickers, die-cuts, wood veneers add some cute details to my page and make it another fun Summer memory to treasure!

Thanks so much for stopping by today! Make sure you check out the Sassy store for amazing goodies you can't live without!

Hello Summer | Simple Stories Hello Summer | Tarrah McLean

Hi Sassy Scrappers,

It's Tarrah McLean back with you and today I am sharing a new layout using the Hello Summer collection by Simple Stories!!!

I absolutely love the multicolour striped paper from this collection! So much so that I ordered 2 sheets of it! I have been hoarding them up until now! I decided I would use the first sheet by cutting out a background cut file from it. I love the effect this cut file gives to a paper like this!

I adhered the cut file straight onto a plain white cardstock background and then started to work out where I wanted to place my photo and embellishments. I decided on the very centre of the layout so that you could see the cut file evenly on both sides. I layered a couple of the coloured papers from the 3' x 4' Elements paper underneath my photo to help it stand out from all those colours in the background paper!

I popped up the 'Hello' die-cut piece that forms part of my title using foam tape and then adhered the 'Summer' flat to the page. I like the interest this gives and the shadows this effect gets on a page. Some of the floral chipboard and die-cut pieces were perfect embellishments to tuck in to each side of the photo.

This collection is perfect for your Summer/Beach photos! The colours are gorgeous! Find it in the Sassy Scrappers store now!

Thanks so much for stopping by the Sassy blog today!

Life Is Better In The Summer | Simple Stories Hello Summer | Tarrah McLean

Hi Sassy Scrappers,

It's Tarrah McLean back with you and today I am sharing a new layout using the Hello Summer collection.
As soon as I saw those super cute flamingos from the sticker sheet and the ephemera pack, I immediately thought of this super cute photo of my niece sitting on the pool flamingo when she was a baby! Because the flamingos were facing different directions, I worked my design so that I could fit both on my page.

I love that saying, 'Life is Better in the Summer' so this was the perfect title piece layered over the flamingo on the left. I also added some of the fun phrase stickers for some pops of colour around the page too. The florals in this collection are soooo pretty and I couldn't resist adding a few of those onto my page too!

I tucked in the palm tree die cut on the top right of my photo to draw in some of the green colour and create a visual triangle. The wood veneers that I have this month aren't actually from the Hello Summer collection, however they go perfectly! I used the flamingo (of course!) and one of the small flowers from the wood veneer pack.

I just love that pineapple chipboard piece too, it was the perfect size and colour to add to the bottom right corner of my photo.

This collection is perfect for your Summer/Beach photos! The colours are gorgeous! Find it in the Sassy Scrappers store now!

Happy creating!

Pocket Pages | Vicki Boutin Field Notes | Agnus Kasprzak

Hi again :) I'm back with another share from our project life album and got my hand messy with a bit of mixed media fun to document June with the help of some great items from Vicki Boutin's Field Notes collection teamed with a splash of gorgeous colour from Jane Davenport's Mermaid Markers.

If you haven't already had a play with Mermaid Markers then you are missing out, because unlike regular watercolours the brush pens are filled with water reactive dye ink that produces some brilliantly vivid colours.

I used a wet brush with clean water to prep my cardstock for my monthly title card, then used a mermaid maker to lay down some colour for the background. Once dry I used a wet brush to lift some of the colour to create varied texture. I used my favourite black inkpad to stamp one of the designs from the Escape stamp and die set before layering a few circle elements from the ephemera pack with some flowers from the watercolour sticker pack. I used the black mermaid marker from the shipwrecked set to hand letter my title with the brush pen then let it dry before cutting it out and adding it to the card.

I diluted the yellow mermaid marker with water before applying it onto my filler card... applying the colour in various strengths to create a more interesting look, then used an ink applicator to add black ink over one of the stencils before adding a sentiment from the sticker pack along with a couple of puffy stickers

Using more painted backgrounds paired with a repeated pattern from the stamp set... I like the contrast of the bright colours with the graphic black and white elements in this collection.

Using no patterned paper was a little bit daunting at first, but the more I played the more I liked that it gave me the ability to chose any colours I wanted!

The mermaid marker can also be used for stamping and applying ink over a wet background creates some interesting results.

Although the watercolour stickers from this collection are made to be coloured, I decided to leave the large numbers white to help them to stand out against my painted background.
