Pocket Pages with Agnus | Simple Stories | Say Cheese III

Hi :) I'm back with another share from my project life album using some fun goodies from the 'Say Cheese III' collection from Simple Stories.

Although this collection is themed around Disney Land, it has a lot of great elements that are well suited for documenting everyday life and the colour palette is perfect for a variety of photos and I wanted to share some tips for how I approach my project life process. 

I like to begin each new month with a custom title card and even if you aren't documenting your stories in a weekly of monthly format, title cards are a great way to introduce new topics or events into your albums. I have added a couple of gold foiled elements to this range and began my monthly title card with a section of the gorgeous gold foiled vellum over some grey cardstock - I originally backed the vellum with white cardstock but swapped it out for the grey base because it seemed to be a better fit with the tones in this range, although I did use a small portion of white behind the title to make it pop. I also added some fun chipboard frames from and earlier 'Say Cheese' range along with a variety of stickers from the 8 pack sticker sheets. 

  The gold foiled acetate words are an easy way to add a bold statement to the page, and work well over filler cards and photos. 

Not all cards in every range are going to work with your stories or photos and instead of simply setting them aside I often try to think of ways that they can be altered and ultimately used in your albums - this card originally had a printed saying on the right hand side and while it was very cute on it's own, it didn't really go with the photos along side it and so I decided to cover up the saying with some printed journaling inside one of the small chipboard frames. I could have left it there and it would have looked fine, but adding the alpha stickers and a few enamel dots really helps to dress up the card. 

And there are other times when a simple filler card with a great quote or saying is the perfect addition to your page!  

 I always like to repeat the same patterns across both pages and varying the placement helps the pages from looking overly repetitive while still maintaining a nice flow. 

Using the chipboard frames over smaller photos helps to draw the eye to the photo and placing one of the larger acetate words vertically is an easy way to add more visual interest to the page. 

Mixing various stickers with printed journaling helps to set the tone for your stories and placing it all in a cluster instantly draws the eye into the photo.  

Of course some stories need more room than journal strips can provide, and this is where the journal cards come into play. This collection already has a good mix of journal cards ready to be filled but if you are making your own cards look for small neutral patterns where your story won't get lost in the background. 

 Last but not least, don't forget the memorabilia!! The things you find or collect help to add a more personal touch to your albums and are great for documenting things in a way that photos and journaling alone don't always portray.

'SWEET' ~ By Kylie Kingham using 'Carousel' by Maggie Holmes

Hi friends!

A new month is here which means new goodies to play with! YAY! I am SO happy to be creating with the new 'Carousel' collection by one of my favourite designers Maggie Holmes for Crate Paper.You can see this beautiful collection, which is available in the Sassy store here.

This week I have created a layout using lots of the chipboard stickers and ephemera.There is a lot of gold glitter to this range.

Um, yes please!

Here is a look at my completed layout-

I started by creating the scalloped borders at the top of my page.This was achieved by using scalloped edged scissors. (I know, I know, so primitive when I have a Cameo but they were so fast and my favourites to use!) 

This Carousel chipboard sticker is my favourite.In fact I created the whole layout around this sticker.I backed it with 3 paper straws mostly for fun but to help it stand out on my page.

I backed the Ice Cream stand with really thick foam tape (shown above) to bring it up to the height of the straws.I like the 3D effect doing this gives also.

I also used foam tape under my lettering.

As mentioned before, there is a lot of gold glitter across this collection.I love it so much!

I finished the layout with some of the gold stars from the ephemera pack.Hope you have enjoyed my first project for the month.

You Rock by Farrel Tailor

Good Morning Sassy Fans!! Today I am sharing with you all a layout I created using the awesome Cocoa Vanilla Studios "You Rock" range with some Lindy's Stamp Gang Magical Shakers.

I start off by applying a thin coat of gel medium to the area where I am going to place my magical shakers onto my Cocoa Vanilla Studios - Experimental patterned paper. Once dry I use Lindy's Stamps Gang Magical Shaker in Guten Tag Teal and spray with water. 

I then use the Magical Shaker in Bavarian Blue and splatter in the area I want it and spray with water again to let the colours run into each other.

Next using the left over Bavarian Blue Magical, I mix it with heavy white gesso and spread through the Tim Holtz Grid Dots stencil.

Once dried I then use Black archival ink and stamp randomly to the background of my layout using the Darkroom Door Numbers Stamp.

Next I cover my Cocoa Vanilla Studios -You Rock wood veneers with white gesso and shake some Lindy's Stamp Gang Magical Shakers Oom Pah Pah Pink then sprayed with water. I then splattered some of the Bavarian Blue shaker. Once dried I felt the colour didn't quite match the red in the photo so I lightly padded some Rose Bud ink from the Prima Resist Chalk Edgers and was super happy with this colour.

Hello Adventure | Shimelle | Tarrah McLean

Hi Sassy Scrappers!

It's Tarrah McLean back with you again and today I am sharing a new layout with you all using the gorgeous Shimelle collections: Starshine and Go Now Go!

I just love that colourful striped paper and knew I wanted to use it as a background for this layout! The photo I am using is one of my sons from our recent trip to Europe and the UK. We were visiting the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester....the boys loved all the old planes and transport that were there!

I had lots of the Autumn themed embellishments left in the Shimelle Go Now Go collection and even though my layout is not about Autumn, I still think they go well on this layout!

The 'Journey' cork words are one of my favourite things from my kit this month! I love the texture and the dimension they bring to my layout!

Art Journalling with Courtney

Hi there, Courtney here today with a step by step on creating a spread in your art journal..

Here are the steps and products for my page below: 

1. I sprayed my page with White Linen Dylusions ink.

2. While it was still wet I sprayed Lemon Zest

                                                             London Blue

                                                             Fresh Lime

                                                             Polished Jade

I then tilted my journal around to let the colours run and mix a little and then let them dry.

3. I then used different stencils to create interest ...

4. I then stamped the border using the Oodles of Foliage stamp and Branching Out stamp

with a Tim Holtz Distress ink in Blueprint Sketch.   Shop Here

 

5. I stamped out my main images onto plain white printer paper in Ranger Archival ink in Jet Black.

                      

 

6. I adhered these to my page and then

coloured them with various markers.

 

7. To finish off my page I added Stickles and outlined the leaves at the top with a white out pen.

Summer Days final projects with Kylie

Hi Sassyscrapper friends! I hope you are all really well. Today I am finishing the month of July sharing not one but TWO projects for my final week.I will also recap a project you may of missed last week via my Instagram account.

For July I have been using the beautiful 'Summer Days' collection by Simple Stories.You can see it in all its glory in store here.

My latest 'thing' is creating mood boards.Whether it is in my pocket page layouts, journaling or planning.This collection lends itself so well for being able to do this.First up is a little look inside my journal.I completed a two page mood spread which I may go on to add some typed text to later on.

That Flamingo card! GAH! So cute!

This week I also completed another layout. I was very much looking for a minimal effect and have limited the layering of my papers.

Given that I like a 'busy' layout this was quite an accomplishment for me.This collection has such a fun sense to it.

And in case you missed it last week here is a little look at the pocket page, mood board spread I completed.This will be an opening page to my next Summer album.

I was super happy how it turned out and currently have it hanging on my crafty space wall.......So I can be dreaming of Summer!

Take It In | Shimelle | Tarrah McLean

Hi there Sassy Scrappers!
It's Tarrah McLean back with you and today I am sharing another layout using some of the gorgeous Shimelle collections from the Sassy store!

The Shimelle collections I am using this month have loads of travel inspired products in them but you don't always necessarily have to create full on travel themed projects with it.

My youngest son has a current fascination with Lamborghini cars! I snapped this photo of him in front of a Lamborghini store in London...I thought the 'Take It In' title was perfect for this layout but all the other elements on this layout are not really relevant to the theme, I don't mind that though, I just liked how the colours looked against the black background!

I really like how the cork elements add a bit of dimension and interest to this otherwise flat layout!
