My Boyz | Cool Kid | Tarrah McLean

Hi there Sassy Scrappers!

It's Tarrah McLean back with you today to share another layout created using the super awesome 'Cool Kid' collection by Crate Paper.

To start my layout, I found a cool cut file from Just Nick Studio and cut it from white cardstock using my Silhouette Cameo, then using the Cool Kid 6' x 6' paper pad, I backed all the open spaces with different papers. I love how it turned out! The middle circle was backed using some plain red cardstock. Once I had everything backed I used some foam tape to adhere the entire cut file from the background paper.

I am starting to run out of embellishments from the Cool Kid collection so I am having to think of clever layout ideas that will allow me to use what I have left! I had the 2 boy chipboard pieces so I knew a brother/son layout would be best for this one!

I decided to cut my photo into a circle shape and I matted it with a paper cut into a circle also.

I hope I have inspired you to create some boy layouts? Make sure to check out the Cool Kid collection plus so much more in the Sassy Store now!

Happy creating!

Leave a Little Sparkle Art Journal Page by Farrel Tailor

Hello Fellow Sassy Fans!!! I'm back again to share with you another mixed media art journal page featuring the amazing 13arts Ayeeda Mists.

So to start my page I used a mini harlequin stencil with Ranger Texture Paste and used my heat gun to dry.

Once the paste was dry I sprayed water to the area I wanted the 13arts Chalk Turquoise mist to go and applied the mist using a small paint brush. I then splattered what was left on my brush onto the page.

Next I splattered Chalk Ultramarine Ayeeda mist onto my page and spritzed enough water to let the colour run a little. Once it was dry I then applied Chalk Indigo using a watered paint brush and applied it around the outside of my coloured area. I also added some splatters.

As you can tell this page is all about layering. So the next mist I used was Pearl Turquoise Light which I used to splatter all over. This mist has a little bit of sparkle to it which just makes the colours all pop!!

I then splattered using Dylusions Black Marble and White Linen Sprays and used a heat gun to dry.

Now to add a little bit more texture - I used Art Basics 3D Gloss Gel to adhere my cheesecloth and gave it a quick dry with my heat gun. I then cut out my butterfly print that I got from Pinterest (the link will be over on my blog) and also adhered it using the 3D Gloss Gel.

Then to finish off the page I used Vicki Boutin's Mixed Media Stickers Phrases and Accents and used my black Uni Posca pen to draw around the edges of the stickers.

And there you have it, a simple but effective art journal page and I hope I have inspired you to create something this week.

Thanks for dropping by
Farrel xx

Pocket Pages with Agnus | Pinkfresh Studio | Escape The Ordinary collection cont.

Hi again :) I'm back with another poet page spread using the gorgeous 'Escape The Ordinary' collection from Pinkfresh Studio!

I may have already mentioned how much I love this collection when I shared my previous pages, but just in case I didn't make it clear the first time.... this collection is awesome!! The colours and graphics work really well with a variety of photos and the range of gorgeous embellishments make it a joy to create with. I loved it so much in fact that I also used it on a recent 12x12 layout, and was more than happy to use it again to document the remainder of our June memories.

I have once again paired up the gorgeous foiled wooden alphas with the cute
puffy alphas from the earlier Indigo Hills collection along with a small strip of patterned paper and a couple of bright leaf motifs for a pop of colour.

I tucked a portion of the photo into one of the fun layered tags before adding one of the die-cut phrases from the ephemera pack

I loved using the foiled die-cuts from the ephemera pack for my journal cards, and a little bit of gold stitching really helped to define the die cut on the card.

I used more stitching throughout the spread, repeating the same blue colour to help tie everything together. Leaving a space around the journal strips, chipboard and puffy stickers is a good way to make the stitching look like it is a part of the design.

I love using found objects or memorabilia in my albums and collected a handful of leaves when I took this photo and later pressed them flat to use with the photo. The little touches help to give your albums are more personal feel and it doesn't take a lot of effort to think ahead when you are snapping your pics.

I had a few extra photo this month and added a 6x8" insert with a fun peek through pocket.

I selected two of the layered tags which I decorated with a few extra embellies. Your tags will need to be the same size for this to work and some simple thread will help to create the floating effect. My tags ended up quite thick so there was no problem with them moving around in the pocket but if you do get some excess movement, you can add a staple through one side of the page protector and tag before attaching the backing tag in place.

You can see both sides of the insert here as well as both sides of the layered tags inside the peek through pocket.

Moving onto the second part of the spread...

I mainly used 3x4" vertical photos on this side, joining them with the patterned papers to create journal and filler cards inside the larger pockets.

Utilising the negative space on the side of the photo with an embellishment cluster.  I added a strip fo the blue patterned paper for contrast, and layered together a mix of puffy stickers, die-cuts and e

I added some vellum over one of the busy prints so that my journal strips would be more visible and stitched a frame around of the accents from the cut-apart paper

A large die-cut is the perfect backing for a simple journal strip.
Repeating the same element (in this case the little stars) on both the photo and card helps to create a sense of flow and clearly shows that the card belongs to the adjoining photo.

A Little Dirt Never Hurt | Cool Kid | Tarrah McLean

Hi there Sassy Scrappers!

It's Tarrah McLean back with you and today I have a new layout to share created using the Crate Paper 'Cool Kid' collection

The background paper I chose for this layout reminded me of dirt tracks and so it was perfect for this layout and photo of my eldest son playing in the dirt! There were some great embellishments included in this range for me to include on this layout!

I made good use of the 6 x 6 paper pad to create my title. I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut the title out but I used different coloured papers for different words making sure that there wouldn't be the same colours close together.

I loved creating this layout and thinking a little outside the box!

Make sure you check out the Sassy store where you can find all of the Cool Kid collection plus so much more too!

Happy creating!
