Project Life | Week Eleven...

Hello Sassy Friends!  Are you ready for another Project Life instalment? This week I am sharing Week Eleven | March 10 - 16.

Over the last few weeks, you may have noticed that I've been on a bit of a colour theme craze! *grin* Week Nine it was orange. Week Ten it was lime green and this week, Week Eleven, my spread is being supported by this beautiful turquoise.

So how do I get a colour theme to work for me? Usually I look at the dominant colours in my photos for the week.  But I am also conscious of colour when I am taking my photos.  I like to have as neutral a background as possible, to allow the camera to zoom in on the detail of the subject.  This is clearly not always going to happen when you are outside, but if you can capture photos with minimal distractions in the back ground, the focus will remain on the subject you want to document.  The neutral back drop will then make it easier for you to use a colour story of your choosing.  Sounds simple enough.. right?!  If a back ground is too busy, then my alternative is to try and take the photo from an interesting perspective.  This is where my iPhone comes in very handy!  It is much lighter than my DSLR.

When it comes to printing my photos, especially my Instagram pictures, I will print them in a 4"x6" size.  The Instagram photo won't fit across the full area of the 4"x6" print, so I will crop my photo to the square format and leave the white border around the outside edge.  The white border then enhances the neutral look I am trying to achieve and allows space for extra journaling or adding embellishments.

Don't be afraid to switch things up either when it comes to colour choice.  The turquoise colour is complimented with small touches of yellow, found in some of the photos, alphas and embellishments on the spread.

When I am taking photos inside, the same idea for a neutral back ground applies.  I try to keep it as clutter free as possible.  If I need to document clothing, like the hockey uniforms my boys are wearing for the first time, I will ask them to stand against an uninterrupted part of the living room wall.  The only time I will include back ground detail is if it helps to document the story.

Be conscious of the things going on in the back ground of your photos this week.  Stay focused on the story your want to share and record.
